The model in this peice is my brother, who is autistic. This shot is very significant for a number of reasons -- firstly, as anyone will know if having heard of or dealt with autism before, people with the disorder find it terrifyingly difficult to make eye contact. It is almost impossible for them to do. So the fact that he was able to maintain contact with me for as long as he did as I took his picture numerous times is something truly amazing, and I thank him wholeheartedly for doing so.
Secondly, he didn't censor his expression or show the least bit of discomfort. So while he may not possess the archetypal beauty that most of the models depicted here on dA do, he allowed me to capture a glimpse into eyes that have evaded myself and many others over the course of his life.
That makes him the most beautiful model I have ever seen.
what a look! i really mean it!
i have never thought an autistic person can look like this.and im ashamed of myself.
his looks, expression and your comment really made me think.it's so touchy. and i hope he will lead to a happy life(im sure he's happy now, too)
Beautiful. Just beautiful. The summary combined with what I already knew about your brother and the picture itself is wonderful. You have a great composition in this shot an the choice to make it black and white was a truly wise one. Way to go!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
